Sakhi is a student organization that serves as a safe community space for queer, trans and allied South Asian students.
Sakhi is a UC Davis student organization with a mission to provide a safe, confidential and celebrating space for students who identify at the intersection of being South Asian and LGBTQIA+. We are open to allies who want to know more about our community and support us. Our general meetings are focused on social group activities, forming a strong community of queer, trans and allied South Asian students at UC Davis, and discussing what’s important to our community. We also host cultural events that celebrate both our South Asian heritage and LGBTQIA+ identities, and organize to bridge the gap between our often conflicting South Asian and LGBTQIA+ selves and communities. We also work to connect Queer Desi students to the rich legacy of queer and trans South Asian history, art, culture and identity so students can have a better sense and determination of their own intersectional LGBTQIA+ South Asian identities.
