About

The Narrative Pre-Health Journal helps students understand the value that they bring to medicine through the Humanities. Observation, analysis, empathy, and reflection combined, act as powerful tools for how we process the human experience. Our club will expose students to different topics/perspectives in healthcare through a variety of mediums (writing, reading, video, etc.) where they will be able to engage with the material through group discussion and written reflection. Participants will produce writing that can be submitted for publication in our literary journal.

Benefits of Joining

  • Opportunity to enhance communication and reflective skills by exploring personal narratives with medicine and being exposed to a variety of medical humanities topics
  • Gain valuable insights on general medical topics from current board members and students and from a medical student
  • Opportunity to submit and be published to our yearly student-run journal, a collection of student submitted pieces relating to medical humanities including poetry, artwork, and narrative stories

Events

  • Weekly discussions about Narrative Medicine topics, including medical racism, implicit bias, and cultural humility
  • Fall quarter socials
  • Speaker events from UC Davis Faculty and/or physicians
