Japanese Sword Fighting
Kendo Club at UC Davis is a student-led organization that practices the traditional Japanese art of Kendo through experienced volunteers and dojo collaborations. We serve to educate and improve people's skill in the traditional Japanese combat sport. We are a close-knit, friendly club, where anyone of any skill level is able to feel welcome and learn. Kendo is, in essence, Japanese sword fighting. Traditional matches consist of two people. Each person wields a sword composed of bamboo, called the shinai, which represents the spirit of the Kendoka, or a person who practices Kendo. In a match or spar, Kendoka try to score points by attacking either the head (men), forearm (kote), or abdomen (dou) of their opponent while maintaining proper form.
