Advocating for curriculum reform at UC Davis!
The Global Perspectives Initiative (GPI) was formed by undergraduate students with the goal of building a community where students could discuss their concerns about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in health and biological sciences courses. The GPI is dedicated to advocating for curriculum reform in One Health courses at UC Davis. Drawing upon anti-racism, anti-colonialism, trauma-informed practices, ethnic studies, disability justice scholarship, and our own experiences, our innovative framework particularly explores three under-addressed themes: lived experiences, community engagement, and cultural humility. Some of most updated projects we do include collaborating with instructors, building course modules, introducing guest speakers to classes, and researching student experiences with curricula and learning environments.
- Course Modules (50 minute presentations)
- Annual social
- Volunteering events (youth summer camps, patient navigation, etc very ad hoc)
- Public Speaking
- Public Health Outreach
- Gantt Chart & Other Organizational Tools
- Faculty & student connections
- Leadership
- Creative student-led activities & discussions
- Small team environment
